Reminders

School Lunches
Please don’t forget to place an order for school lunch through ParentPay by 8:00 am on the day. To avoid missing the deadline, we recommend that you order your child’s lunches in advance - you can cancel or amend those orders at any time up until 8:00 am on the day if anything changes.

Transfer to Secondary School
Congratulations to our Year 6 children who have received their offers of a secondary school place. Please remember to accept or decline your offer by Monday 16th March. You must do this via the eAdmissions website. If you are taking up a place at an independent school, please let the school office know.

Safety on the school site

To ensure everyone's safety on the school site, pedestrian access to the car park area that runs between Fern Hill and The Kingston Academy is restricted. Access to the school main reception and playground gates is through the Richmond Road pedestrian gate only. Please dismount bikes and scooters before entering through the gate.

May we also remind you to park considerately on the nearby roads at drop off and pick up - to observe any parking restrictions in place and not block our neighbours' driveways. Thank you for your support.

Red Nose Day 2026Red Nose Day

On Friday 20th March, we will be fundraising for Comic Relief and supporting Red Nose Day with a ‘red to toe’ mufti day. Children are invited to wear something (or everything!) red instead of their school uniform in return for a small donation to Comic Relief.

We’ll be collecting cash donations on the day but if you prefer to donate online directly to Comic Relief, please use our dedicated Comic Relief JustGiving page

Thank you for supporting this special charity. Thank you also to our Year 6 children who sold Red Noses all this week - we have now sold out!

Parents Evening Don't ForgetParents' Evening

The Parents' Evening system is now open for bookings. If you have not yet made an appointment to speak to your class teacher/s, please do so before the booking window closes on Friday 20th March at midday

To book, please follow this link. A parent's guide on how to book is available here. If your child has a SEND review, you do NOT need to book a Parents’ Evening appointment as well.

On Thursday 26th March, school will close at 1:30 pm for children in Reception through to Year 6. Please collect your child/ren promptly to allow teachers to prepare for their Parents' Evening appointments which start at 2:00 pm. Nursery will run as normal until 3:25 pm and Tree Tops will run from 1:30 pm until the usual finish of either 4:30 pm or 6:00 pm.

For any questions regarding booking a Parents' Evening appointment, please contact the school office.

Home Learning 2Home Learning

Home Learning Grids for this half-term are posted on your child's Google Home Learning Classroom. Work should be completed in time for our Home Learning Showcase on Monday 23rd March (not the usual Friday!). If you have any issues uploading your child's work, please contact your class teacher.

Parent CouncilParent Council

Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to complete the Parent Communications Survey. The Senior Leadership Team is now reviewing the results and feedback will be shared in the next Parent Council’s Parental Voice newsletter.

Congratulations to Lavender, Foxglove and Cornflower!

You will receive extra Diamond Time for having the highest number of survey responses. Thank you for your fantastic participation!

The Parent Council Needs You!

We meet twice each term with Mr. Scott to discuss key topics and share ideas. It’s an opportunity for parents and carers to help shape and improve the school. These discussions lead to a parent survey and our Parental Voice newsletter, where we share feedback and actions taken.

We are currently looking for Parent Council representatives for the following classes: Bluebell, Sunflower, Cornflower, Clover, Heather, Elm, Yew, Lime, Sycamore, Oak and Willow. Please email us to find out more.

Clubs

Booking for clubs for next term is now open. Of the school-run clubs which are booked through ParentPay, Start to Sing for Years 1 & 2, Keyboards for Years 1 & 2 and Basketball for Years 3 & 4 are now full. If you would like your child to be added to the waiting list for these clubs, please email clubs@fernhillprimary.org. Clubs run by external providers manage their own bookings, so please contact them directly regarding availability and payment. The full club timetable and provider contact information is published on our website here.

Next week is the last week for lunchtime and after-school clubs this term. There will be three catch-up sessions during the final week of term: Public Speaking/Debating on Wednesday 25th March at 3:30 pm, Keyboard on Thursday 26th March at lunchtime, and Technokids Computer Coding on Friday 27th March at 1:30 pm.

Spring Sounds 2Spring Sounds

Join Spring Sounds – a free day of music fun and discovery on Sunday 22nd March from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm at Kingston University’s Town House, supported by Arts Council England and Kingston Music Service. Try instruments, join workshops like gamelan or video game composing, and enjoy talks and performances – all ages are welcome and no experience is needed. This is a relaxed, drop-in style event with family zones. Please register for free for entry and updates here

Tree Tops

If you plan to use Childcare Vouchers or Tax-free Childcare (TFC) payments to pay for Tree Tops sessions next term, please ensure you arrange for their transfer by Monday 23rd March. The school is closed over the Easter break and any vouchers or payments received after this date may not be processed until school reopens.

ROARROAR

We are delighted that ROAR Kids Academy will be back with us at Fern Hill to run their fantastic holiday camp over the Easter break, from Monday 30th March to Thursday 2nd April and Tuesday 7th to Friday 10th April. For booking and further information, click here.

ROAR offer a limited number of full funded FUEL places so if your child is in receipt of FSM, they are entitled to attend up to 4 free standard camp days from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Please note that AFC has changed the booking process for FUEL places and FUEL codes no longer exist. To book your FUEL place, click here

Book of the Week

Golden Monkey Mystery‘The Golden Monkey Mystery’ by Piu DasGupta

Roma Moreau attends Miss Oliphant’s School for Young Ladies in the Kalabon Forest in Bengal, and her greatest dream is to become a doctor. But women are not admitted to medical school and her father does not believe it is a suitable profession for women, anyway.

When Roma comes across a vanishingly rare golden leaf-eating monkey, she knows that it needs to be returned to its home in the Himalayas. But Roma faces numerous obstacles in her quest, like two English children, a troupe of thieves, a legendary bandit queen and a notorious, cursed jewel - the Snakestone.

This book was full of fascinating historical details about the plants, wildlife and geography of India that create an incredibly rich and vivid sense of place. I particularly enjoyed the topsy-turvy optical illusions in the book - inspired by twelfth-century carvings and Victorian children’s books. And I loved Roma’s little cat friend Birala, who she can talk to and who accompanies her on her adventure.

‘The Golden Monkey Mystery’ is a classic children’s adventure, with a feisty, feminist heroine, and it’s sure to keep young readers captivated.
