World Food Day & Kingston Foodbank Donations

To mark World Food Day on Thursday 16th October, and support our local community, we will be collecting non-perishable foods for the Kingston Foodbank. Donations can be dropped off on Monday and Tuesday next week and left outside school reception. Click here for a list of items the Foodbank is most in need of right now. On Wednesday 15th October, our Year 6 prefects will accompany Mrs Davies to the Kingston Foodbank to drop your donations off.

World Food DayWorld Food Day is celebrated around the world on the 16th October - the date that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FOA) was founded in 1945. First commemorated in 1979, World Food Day aims to promote healthy diets and eradicate hunger issues. The theme for 2025 is 'Right to foods for a better life and a better future'. This is based on the fact that the world's farmers produce enough food to feed more than the global population, but hunger is still an issue for so many.

Parents Evening Don't ForgetParents' Evening

The Parents' Evening system will close for bookings on Monday 13th October at midday. If you have not yet made an appointment to speak to your class teacher/s, please do so before the booking window closes. For any questions regarding booking a Parents' Evening appointment, please contact the school office.

Home Learning 2Home Learning

Home Learning Grids for this half-term are posted on your child's Google Home Learning Classroom. Work should be completed in time for our Home Learning Showcase on Friday 17th October. If you have any issues uploading your child's work, please contact your class teacher in the first instance.

PunctualityPunctuality & School Absence

Please may we remind you of the importance of children being on time and settled in their classrooms before the start of the school day. The first 10–15 minutes of the morning are used for revisiting key skills such as handwriting, spelling, reading, times tables and arithmetic, which pupils start before the registers are taken.

Children may go straight to class once their playground gates are opened at 8:40 am; class registers are taken at 8:50 am when the playground gates are locked. Children arriving after the gates are locked should go directly to school reception to be signed in. Arrivals after 8:55 am are marked as late. Further information on the timing of the school day can be found here.

All planned absences, including those for religious observance and holidays, should be requested in advance using this linked Request for Absence Form which is also available to download from the school website here. The school office can provide a paper copy on request. This form is reviewed by Mr Scott who can grant an authorised leave of absence in exceptional circumstances.

For further information, please refer to our Attendance Policy.

Community 2Volunteering in School

Today, you will have received a letter from Mrs Davies about volunteering in school. You can read the letter here. Before starting in school, we ask that you attend an in-person introduction session and undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We will be holding two introduction sessions before the half-term break on Wednesday 15th October at 9:00 am and Tuesday 21st October at 9:00 am. You only need to attend one of the sessions which will run for approximately 30 minutes and cover responsibilities and expectations including health and safety measures in school, safeguarding, confidentiality, how to support reading and phonics, DBS checks and next steps. If you are interested in volunteering in school and can commit to doing so on a regular basis, please complete this linked form to let us know which introduction session you will attend and the year group/s you would like to support.

GardeningGardening Day

Tomorrow, Saturday 11th October, Mrs Dutra will be holding a Gardening Day at school from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, to ready the gardens for winter and would love as many families as possible to come along and help. Refreshments will be provided. If you have any gardening hand tools and gloves, please do bring them with you! Thank you for your support.

Book of the Week

Popular‘How to Get Magically Popular’ by Radhika Sanghani

When Sabina moves to a new town with her mum, she really misses her old friends, Harry and Ria, and struggles to make new ones. But when she starts having visions of the future, she catches the attention of the two most popular girls at school. The Leeshes (Alicia & Felicia) appoint themselves as bodyguards to protect Sabina from the overwhelming reaction of the rest of the school, but they have their own agenda - they want her to demonstrate her gift with them in the town talent show. Sabina doesn’t want to draw more attention to herself but when she has a vision of her mum’s business closing down, she realises that the prize money could save the day. But the more Sabina’s tries to control the future, the more she messes things up in the present.

This is a warm and captivating story about being a good friend and learning to live in the moment. Sabina’s power is based on yoga and meditation, a fresh take on middle grade magic, and inspired by the author’s experience as a yoga instructor. ‘How to Get Magically Popular’ is perfect for fans of Lottie Brooks, Dork Diaries and Radhika’s previous novel, ‘The Girl Who Couldn’t Lie.’
