Reminders

Year Group Weekly News
Don't forget to check the Google Classroom for your year group's weekly update and any important reminders from your teachers for next week.

Coats & PE Kits
With the colder weather, please ensure that your child wears a warm coat to school - break times will always be spent outside, even if there is a little rain. For outdoor PE, children should now be wearing black tracksuits or jogging bottoms and a long sleeved jumper or jacket, not just shorts and a t-shirt.

Lost Property
A lost property box is located just inside the entrance of the school. Please check this box for lost items before contacting the school office. We will always endeavour to return items to their owner, so please make sure everything your child brings to school is clearly named (first name and surname), including water bottles and packed lunch containers. Items not collected by the end of every half-term are disposed of.

Odd Socks DayAnti-Bullying Week and Odd Socks Day

In school next week, we will be celebrating Anti-Bullying Week. Anti-Bullying Week is an annual event coordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance and their theme this year is Power for Good. The children will spend time in the classroom talking about the harm and hurt that bullying causes and how they can use their Power for Good to safely speak up and raise awareness when they see bullying, face to face or online.

To mark the start of the week, Monday 10th November is Odd Socks Day and children and staff are invited to wear their  funkiest, oddest socks to celebrate their individuality and to celebrate what makes us all unique. This is not a mufti day, so children should still wear their school uniform – but with some fantastic, mismatched socks!

Positive Noticing DayPositive Noticing Day

On Wednesday next week, the children will celebrate Positive Noticing Day. This is an opportunity for them to focus on, and celebrate, positive behaviours together. They will be thinking about what they notice about their classmates in terms of kindness, character, effort, attitude, skills and talent and each child will create a positive noticing label for a friend to take home.

Home Learning 2Home Learning

This half-term's Home Learning Grids for Years 1 - 6 are posted on your child's Home Learning Google Classroom, along with other home learning resources. Children will share their home learning pieces with their year group and teachers during the Home Learning Showcase on Friday 12th December. Did you know that you can set up notifications on your child's Google Classroom to alert you when your teachers publish a post? You can enable this for any device, including your mobile phone. Please see the step-by-step instructions here

Children in Need 2Fundraising for the BBC Children in Need Appeal

On Friday 14th November, we will be supporting the BBC Children in Need Appeal with a fundraising mufti day - the children don't need to wear school uniform, but we do hope to see lots of spotty and yellow clothing! In return, we'll be asking for a donation to the Children in Need charity. A limited number of Pudsey pin badges and wristbands will be available to buy at drop off and pick up on Wednesday and Thursday. Please look out for more information early next week.

Book Fair 2School Book Fair

We will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during the last week of November, just in time for your Christmas shopping! And, as usual, all purchases will earn rewards towards buying new books for our school. The fair will be open from 3:30 - 4:30 pm in the Junior Library on Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th November. You can browse the books that will be available on the Travelling Books website here. If you cannot attend, you will have the opportunity to pay for books online which will then be sent home with your child after the Fair.

Book Fair Poster Competition

We also have some book fair vouchers available to win for the best posters advertising the fair, using the details above, including your child's favourite books and book characters. Posters can be delivered to class teachers or left on Mrs Rouillard's desk in the Junior Library and all entries must be handed in by 9:00 am on Tuesday 18th November. Please remind your children to put their name and class on their poster!

Remembrance

PoppiesNext week, children and staff will commemorate Remembrance and the whole school will join a two-minute silence on Tuesday 11th November, which is Armistice Day. Thank you to our Year 5 children who have been selling poppies this week - and to all the families who have generously donated to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

NHSFlu Immunisations

If your child missed their flu vaccination at school on Thursday, the School Health Team are running catch-up clinics in Kingston over the next two months. Click here for further information.

Class Assemblies

Click here for the dates of all our class assemblies this school year. Assemblies are held in the Large Hall. Entry and exit to the Large Hall will be via the external doors (past the black gates by school reception) and not through the school building. Assemblies will be recorded and uploaded to the Google Classroom, for families to watch together at home.

Books of the Week

ADHD Rapped Up'ADHD Rapped Up!' by Jamie 'Mr G' Gilbert

‘ADHD Rapped Up’ is written for children and perfectly pitched for neurodivergent brains, with rap video links, movement breaks and fidget features. Jamie Gilbert (‘Mr G Teacher’ on YouTube) breaks down ADHD in easy-to-understand language, as well as explaining other concepts like the ‘fight, flight and freeze response’ and ‘growth mindset’. He also offers tricks and tips to help with regulating emotions, focus and organisation.

This is a fun, positive and concise read that I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to understand more about neurodiversity but it would be particularly useful to children with ADHD.

Spooksmiths‘Spooksmiths Investigate: The Cinderman’ by Alex Atkinson

Indigo and Rusty might live in a funeral parlour, but they don't believe in ghosts. That is, until Indigo knocks over an old urn, accidentally releasing the Cinderman: a terrifying ash monster, who will smother their town in ashes and turn everyone into zombies, unless they can stop him by sunset. Using their newly awakened Spooksmith skills, Indigo and Rusty set out to enlist the help of other ghosts. But can the Blasted Banshee and Chuckles the Phantom Toddler really help them find the Cinderman's true name and put him in his grave for good before Ashmageddon strikes?

This is a spooky and hilarious story - perfect for anyone who loves scary stories!
