Reminders

School Lunches
Please don't forget to place your child's order for lunch through ParentPay by 8:00 am on the day. To avoid missing the deadline, we recommend that you order your child’s lunches well in advance - you can cancel or amend your orders up until 8:00 am on the day too.

Absent or late for school?
If your child is ill or absent from school for any other reason, or if they are going to be late, please let the school office know by 8:30 am at the latest. You can send us an email to office@fernhillprimary.org or call us on 020 8247 0300. Please leave a message on the answerphone if no one answers your call – the office team are there, but busy, and your message will be picked up.

Car Parking
There is strictly no parking on the school site for drop off in the morning, dismissal at the end of the school day or collection from after-school clubs. If you are parking on neighbouring roads, please do so considerately and legally, and be especially mindful of children walking to and from school, particularly at the junctions of Durlston Road and Albany Park Road. Parking restrictions on neighbouring roads apply from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm only.

ImageAttendance

This week you will have received a letter from Mr Scott regarding attendance with a reminder to regularly check your child's attendance certificate using the Arbor Parent Portal or Parent App. This letter was sent out to all our families in Year 1 to Year 6 and you can read it here. We will be resending instructions on how to access the Arbor Parent Portal and App platforms next week, along with your login details. If you have any questions about the Parent Portal or App, please contact the school office.

Did you know that you can set up notifications on your child's Google Classroom to alert you when your teachers publish a post? You can enable this for any device, including your mobile phone. Children in Need 2Fundraising for the BBC Children in Need Appeal

Thank you so much to all the children who bought a pin badge or wristband or gave £1 for our Children in Need appeal today - and to the families who have donated through ParentPay. The payment item will be open until 5th December, if you would still like to donate.

Book Fair 2School Book Fair

We will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during the last week of November, just in time for your Christmas shopping! And, as usual, all purchases will earn rewards towards buying new books for our school. The fair will be open from 3:30 - 4:30 pm in the Junior Library on Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th November. You can browse the books that will be available on the Travelling Books website here. If you cannot attend, you will have the opportunity to pay for books online which will then be sent home with your child after the Fair.

Book Fair Poster Competition

We also have some book fair vouchers available to win for the best posters advertising the fair, using the details above, including your child's favourite books and book characters. Posters can be delivered to class teachers or left on Mrs Rouillard's desk in the Junior Library and all entries must be handed in by 9:00 am on Tuesday 18th November. Please remind your children to put their name and class on their poster!

Too ill for schoolIt can be difficult to know if your child is too ill to come to school. The NHS provides useful guidance on common childhood illnesses and how to manage them, including when you should keep your child at home. Please note their advice that children with diarrhoea or vomiting should stay away from school until at least two days (48 hours) after the last incident. This is also our school policy. If your child is absent because of illness, please remember to let us know by email or phone by 8:30 am on each day of their absence. Thank you.

NHSFlu Immunisations

If your child missed their flu vaccination at school on Thursday, the School Health Team are running catch-up clinics in Kingston over the next two months. Click here for further information.

Class Assemblies

Well done to Oak class for their fabulous assembly this week; we are looking forward to watching Ash class next! Don't forget to check the date of your child's assembly here. Assemblies are held in the Large Hall and start at 9:00 am. Entry and exit to the Large Hall is via the external doors (past the black gates by school reception) and not through the school building. Assemblies are recorded and uploaded to the Google Classroom, for families to watch together at home.

Book of the Week

World between the Rain'The World Between the Rain' by Susan Cahill

Marina has always been able to see things that others can't, like the gaps between the rain. One morning she wakes to discover that her mother, and all the other adults in the town, have fallen under a sleeping spell. A grandmother she has never met before arrives to collect her and her sister, but then she slips into the space between the raindrops and finds herself in another world that is in the process of being devoured by a terrifying creature.

'The World Between the Rain' is a strange, lyrical fantasy story about gods, monsters and grief - perfect for upper KS2.
